Como, June 28 – July 15, 2018
Festival Como Città della Musica
11. Per amor di donna

A city on the Lake of Como that has always been a place of holiday and a shelter, far from noise of the big cities, a peaceful oasis to study, think and relax. Ricordi, Bellini, Foscolo, Stendhal. Past and Present.
Since 2008, Festival Como Città della Musica takes place on Lake Como, the water being the symbol of a vital culture that flows, connects and grows. The Festival combines Como’s strong touristic vocation with excellent international artistic proposals, crossing over and hosting all genres of music: from opera to pop music, classical ballet, to symphonic and electronic music. It invades the whole town: from the Arena of Teatro Sociale of Como to the wonderful neoclassical Villas by the lake, passing by cloisters and courts, medieval towe (such as the famous Torre del Baradello) and hidden Gardens – like the beautiful park of Villa del Grumello – from sunrise to night-time.

Many prestigious names have already trod this stage over the years including: the Ballet of Teatro alla Scala, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the étoile Eleonora Abbagnato, the Tokyo Ballet, the great composer and conductor Michael Nyman, the Momix, the pop singer Gianna Nannini, the great musician Richard Galliano, to name but a few. All art genres, from dance to musicals, opera to jazz concert find space in a line-up that grows over the years and aims to become a fixed destination for cultural tourism, due to an increase in communication and promotion abroad and cooperation with the prestigious and most renowned venues and hotels of Lake Como, such as the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Tremezzo, the Sheraton Lake Como, the Grand Hotel of Villa D’Este in Cernobbio, the Hotel Terminus, the Hotel Villa Flori and, from this year, Hilton Lake Como.

Intorno al Festival

Went as far as its 11 edition, the Festival ‘Como città della Musica’ (‘Como city of Music’) embellishes the great plays in the works in Arena with the ever-present appointments of the Intorno al Festival (‘Around the Festival’).

To honor the important anniversary, the suggestions enrich, putting together places that have become usual ‘musical stop-overs’ of the show and other hardly known sites. The research of spaces ‘beyond’, striving for the valorization of the numerous and amazing corners that the city of Como (and surroundings) can offer, is the final goal of the event: lots of music (and more), from dawn to dusk, will resonate from the splendid estates enclosing the lake and from the timeless monuments adorning the city.

The most disparate staff will bring a magical atmosphere into being for more than two weeks: INTORNO AL FESTIVAL, a free exhibition much appreciated by the public who finds himself thus discovering and re-discovering particularly fascinating places of our city and our lake. Dance, choirs, acrobatics, shows for children…
In addition, WAITING FOR…THE FESTIVAL will propose a series of festival pills between May and June, as a taste of what will wait for the audience, such as the Parolario meeting, or as a preparation for the spectators. A continuously updated calendar, which can be expanded with new concerts in hotels and others venues.

On top of that, exclusive tidbits of the event this year are with no doubts the three appointments where the audience will be able to appreciate and re-experience the places that the great Giuditta Pasta covered (Note sul lago, June 30 – July 7 and 14).

It’s only an overview of the numerous appointments of the Intorno, that in this new edition make originality and the audience’s participation their true trademark.
